First aid badge

He would not tell us what he did for a living, but Alan Chrichton’s first aid kit contained ballistic dressings for gunshot wounds, tourniquets for severed limbs, and Sam splints that let you walk out of the mountains on a broken leg.

Alan taught us the basic principles of CPR, open airway position, bleeding and choking. By the end of the evening the scouts had backed him into a corner asking for more. We were rapt, his stories, jokes and common sense practical advice were fantastic and seventeen scouts were awarded their first aid badge.
